About the grant
The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences offers a four-year undergraduate medical program leading to the award of the MDCM degree (Medicinæ Doctorem et Chirurgiæ Magistrum). The degree designation reflects McGill University’s rich history as home to Canada’s premier medical school (see a brief history of medicine at McGill University), and the original distinction between the medical and surgical schools.
Medicine Curriculum:
McGill University’s College of Medicine and Health Sciences proudly launched its undergraduate medical curriculum in September 2013. The previous curriculum, developed in the 1990s, has been updated based on recommendations from the McGill College of Medicine Strategic Planning Report and the Association of Medical Colleges of Canada report (“The Future Medical Education in Canada – The Medical Doctor Project”). The latest MDCM curriculum was developed on the basis of extensive consultations with stakeholders, including a review of best practices in learning theory and ways to integrate new technologies into renovated classroom spaces.

Please note that the program is offered full-time only; Part-time students are not accepted. For selected students, the program includes a one-year blended study internship in Gatineau or outside of the city of Montreal. The college uses electronic media, multimedia and other information technologies for teaching purposes and to enhance learning. Students should therefore expect audio and/or video recording as part of the programme, for example during learning at the Steinberg Center for Simulation and Interactive Learning.
Courses are offered in English at the Montreal campus and in French at the Outaouais campus. For both campuses, clinical placements beginning in the first year of the program are in various educational locations that may be classified as bilingual institutions or francophone institutions. Note that all McGill University students have the right to submit written in-course work in French or English. While proof of bilingualism is not a selection criterion for admission to the MDCM program, new students’ language proficiency may be assessed prior to the start of the program so that they can upgrade their skills to ensure they are able to safely serve all patients while communicating effectively with clinical teams.
