Explanation of the competition
It was decided to establish the “Sheikh Zayed Book Award,” an independent award given each year to culture makers, thinkers, and creators, in honour of the late, great Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God have mercy on him, and his pioneering role in unification, development, and building the state and humanity.
The Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi supported and sponsored the establishment of this prize, which is connected to the Abu Dhabi Centre for the Arabic Language. It is worth a total of 7,750,000,000 UAE dirhams.
Contest topic
Following the creation of the “Manuscript Verification” branch, which includes books concerned with verifying Arabic heritage texts in a manner characterized by scientific methodology in various fields of knowledge and heritage, as well as the creation of linguistic and specialized dictionaries, the award receives entries in this session from 10 branches.
The new branch joins the award’s original nine branches, which were: literature, translation, development and state building, children’s and young adult literature, arts and critical studies, young author, cultural personality of the year, and publishing and cultural technologies. The award also includes a separate branch for publishing and cultural technologies.
